Interlude - My Artwork
At my high school, I took some art lessons and enjoyed them immensely. As a kid i loved to draw - remember the "Magna-Doodle"? Its a small white board that comes with a magnetic pen and some round magnets that kids "draw" with - well, its more like making patterns really. My first drawing was a butterfly, and my parents loved it. I didnt even start school yet, and I didnt have any picture to follow. I just drew what I remembered seeing on television and in the garden. Later I took art classes in school and learnt to use color pencils, oil pastel and poster color. However, high school was where I really developed a passion for art.
I remembered that when I first walked into the art classroom, I was in awe over the beautiful works of art pinned up on the walls. There were oil paintings, watercolor, pencil and charcoal sketches, posters, black-and-white woodcut prints and Chinese ink paintings and calligraphy. I knew immediately that I had to learn from the master. He was a well-known Chinese artist in Singapore who specialised in Chinese ink paintings depicting tigers and horses. Those paintings came alive under his skillful brushes, and I imagined that some of them could even leap out of the paper! Under his tutelege, my interest in art grew in leaps and bounds, and I even read books about art and art history.
Anyway, I scanned some of the drawings that I liked, which I drew in my free time just for fun. I tried to look at some photos in magazines and newspapers for inspiration (I also love to look at beautiful photos, especially of artistic nudes).
